What crime infested hellhole do Republicans live in? Why is "crime" always their message?

I walk out the door into a nice neighborhood with kids playing in the street in a very populated Democratic-leaning city and Democratic-leaning county. Shit happens here, like anywhere else. I wouldn't say it's such a huge problem that it really impacts the quality of life.

Crime doesn't even register when I cast my vote. I recognize that circumstances in other cities and states may be different but how much is crime really top of mind for voters when they go in the voting booth? How many people are living in places with so much crime that it makes life really difficult?
