(17,757 posts)We lost ground in the election. We did not win a great victory but thankfully we staved off a great defeat.
The Trump energy seems to be fading, and it is probably because the amount of energy to keep supporting the clown has become a drag on even the most ardent Trump supporters and is unsustainable in the long run. I think that is visible in his shrinking crowd sizes. That said, as much as we hate to believe it, Trump is still one of the most powerful Americans alive today. He needs to be swept from the political team for his crimes against the nation. Trump needs to be removed from participation in American politics because of his criminal behavior, and only the Justice system can do it. Or, perhaps, for hidden reasons, the Justice system can't do it.... Unless and until the long arm of the law slaps Trump down he will still be a power to be reckoned with.
"He who defends all, defends nothing."We can deal with DeSantis when the Trump battle is over. Lets try to avoid war on two fronts at the same time. DeSantis does not have Trump's mojo. Old Ron is rotten to the core, but he is an evil technocrat, not a people person; there is nothing about DeSantis to love. Rotten Ron presents himself as an elitist and because of that he will not appeal to the emotional far right, and because of that he is vulnerable. It is hard for a car mechanic to identify with a fellow who parked his car in the Harvard yard.
If Trump eludes justice then there will be a battle to the death for the rotten soul of the Republican Party. It would be good for Democracy if Trump and DeSantis destroy each other in a battle of knives and chains. In effect that gives us two chances of extending the Democratic process; jail Trump, or let the demonic duo self-destruct. Things are looking up.
We have survived the current battle, but the war goes on.
