(9,188 posts)Because things have not been . . . great here.
Even outside of SF and LA where people are not at all happy (Chesa Boudin's ouster and Caruso currently leading the LA mayoral race), things haven been getting weird. I live in a very affluent suburb and it feels like San Francisco and Oakland are leaking.
We've had increasing property crime (catalytic converters, stolen packages, vandalism), increasing shoplifting at stores (people just walk right out) and at least two armed robberies at banks that had never experienced them before. Unhoused people are enroaching on subdivisions in ways never seen nor heard of in anyone's memory with mental illness and drug addiction being heavy contributors.
My neighbors - a collective of Karens and Kens who amass to go full Voltron at every city council meeting - were so incensed, they had the chief of police standing in a random parking lot tearfully apologizing to them for not being up to their standards.
And then they installed a new police substation down the street.
I feel really safe where I live, but I'm not an anxious person.
My neighbors are anxious people. And they are not so happy.
