(2,604 posts)Im a U.S. citizen living in England with my British husband. Just this week I got my British citizenship. Two years ago, I got appendicitis that ruptured. Ambulance ride, surgery, 8 days in hospital. Bill 0. Then last year treated for breast cancer. Two surgeries, radiation, and prescription medication that I will take for 10 years. Best of all decisions are made by doctors without the need for permission nor pre-approval from an insurance company. Cat-scan? MRI? No problem. Yes, taxes are higher. Yes, cost-of-living is higher. But not even close to the cost of insurance or the cost of a health crisis. Im probably never going to get used to letting go of the financial worry of health costs even though I dont face them anymore. It just seems magical. And it should be that way for everybody.
