(60,354 posts)29. At our farmer's market in Germany, it's MORE expensive than in the stores
But we support the merchants there in spite of that. It's a tradition that has been going on in our town for about 800 years or so, and no one wants to see it fade away. Since the opening of the EU, some of the stands have arrangements with farmers elsewhere so that we have small sweet black olives from France, artichokes from Italy, creamy feta cheese from Bulgaria, pastes and creams from Greece, and, of course the local farms that grow their own produce and poultry. It sets up three times a week in our town, and the stand holders are somewhere else for three days a week.
