But another consideration is that GOP voters have not changed since trump. They voted for him in 2016 and by increased numbers in 2020. What's changed is the number of GOP voters that think trump is a viable candidate. They aren't becoming Democrats in any significant percentage. The tendancy towards bigotry, misogyny, racism... is baked in. They will not come to an epiphany over civil rights, environment, education, health so as to sign on to the Democratic platform.

They just don't want to be associated with a loser. They have no problem with him otherwise. AND the representives they elected are defending him in public everyday, doing what they can to undermine any accountability for his actions.

GOP voters have headed for the forested hills. They are still GOP voters.
