I'm middle aged, gay and childless. I pay WAY higher taxes because I get far fewer write-offs. I don't get paid parental leave, paid days off for family events, etc.
Whenever I want to do something for myself, I get the side-eye and some judgmental comment from cons about how I should not need any time for myself because I'm "childless." I'm one of the few who always travels and puts in extra time at work when someone can't make it because of a family obligation. (We are all childless)
Single people carry a whole lot of load for people with kids -- including being net taxpayers who pay MORE than we consume -- and we should be getting thanks rather than crap. We are an essential part of parents' ability to raise kids. We pay for schooling, student loans and health care. We step in when parents cannot. We keep things running and contribute tremendously.
It takes a village to raise a kid and we are important villagers.
