And how much energy transfers.

At 150 yards the bullet has 750-1000 ft lbs of energy. A solid head hit will be a messy fatal wound as the majority of the energy is transferred to the head.

A shallow graze on soft flexible tissue will not transfer much at all, so will produce a minor, even insignificant, wound

Even a piercing wound to the ear would not rip it off. The tissue is too thin and flexible for the required force to be transferred.
