disconnect from society because the shame and outcasting from being raped becomes unbearable. We must walk through life in a bubble of safety, not able to truly connect with anyone because of the lingering fear and more shame. Then we become a target for more sexual assault because we carry that invisible stigma of “rape me”. We do not feel protected. We do not feel understood. We are not believed. We become fragmented and are forced to live in compartments of different areas of our selves depending upon where we are physically. We become numb to the world around us. Joy is robbed from us. We exist in feelings of shame and dirtiness. We have been used and thrown away. That’s why.
