So I was thinking at 3:47 A.M. when my dog awakened me [View all]

That all the world’s a stage and all the men and women are the players. Yes… I know, original thought. But weirdly and I use that term deliberately, all of this has been a play.

In 2015 Donald Trump entered the scene as a neophyte politician, And began honing his act, his political comedy act, on television shows as a dangerous version of Pat Paulsen (you younguns should watch him on YouTube- A riotous performer from 1968). Trump “graced” Morning Joe and other media and practiced for his role as denigrating, sarcastic, supercilious, rich asshole, who was single-handedly going to save the United States of America. No one had ever played that part before, so it was like seeing a new face on the screen or the stage who presented a significantly different performance than others had in the past.

In my lifetime of watching film, only a few actors jumped out of the screen at me when I saw them for the first time. Jack Nicholson in Easy Rider, Sean Connery in Dr No , Harrison Ford in Star Wars are the most significant examples for me. So Trump played on the stage and the act both engaged and fooled enough people for whatever reason they personally needed to be fooled, and the show was held over for years in the White House and the following four years. But Americans tire of any act after a while and want to see something new and different. Now, Vice President Harris and Governor Walz have provided a new act for Americans. It is a different show which radiates relative youth, humor, humanism, experience, and quite a bit of tongue in cheek sarcasm. It’s a brand-new show getting rave reviews and people are now watching and telling their friends to watch. And more and more people are going to watch for the next 90 some days and soon it’s gonna eclipse everything else.

They are going to win this in a convincing landslide and relegate the “former president” to the political equivalent of dinner theater. That is what is going to happen. And “right soon”*.

*(Film people will “get” that reference - it is apropos of what’s coming for Orangina)
