In reply to the discussion: Reports that US armed forces now involved with the Iran/Israel conflict [View all]Disaffected
(6,092 posts)61. Why yes, I did.
In particular I noticed the Fordo enrichment facility:
Irans best-protected nuclear site, Fordo, near the city of Qum, is deep inside a mountain, estimated to be about half a mile below ground to protect it from bombing. Israel did not appear to have attacked it.
To do so would require repeated use of huge bunker buster bombs, and most experts think that cannot be done by Israel alone, without American help.
Fordo was operated secretly by Iran until it was exposed in 2009. It contains Irans most advanced centrifuges and is considered crucial for Iran to enrich uranium to 60 percent, close to bomb grade. It is said to contain close to 3,000 sophisticated centrifuges, more than half of them the most modern type, with the capacity to install at least 1,000 more.
That plus only partial damage at the Natanz site and no reported assault at the Bushehr nuclear reactor site leads me to believe your optimism is at least at this point premature.
However, we can agree completely on your closing paragraph.

Explain to me why we will help defend Israel from a drone attack, but not Ukraine.

Iran doesn't have hundreds of ICBMs with a thousand nuclear warheads aimed at American cities.

So, you and the responder above, admit the USA has no true principles and are cowards. We'll only use our military
