Barring a military coup (which would require multiple acts of treason by thousands of service members), On January 20, 2029, a new president and VP, neither named Trump, will be inaugurated.

In the meantime, there have been numerous court rulings that have slowed, or even stopped Trump’s lawlessness. He has directly defied only one ruling so far (involving deporting Venezuelans to El Salvador), and has appealed the rest with mixed results.

A truly lawless dictator wouldn’t bother appealing court rulings that go against him, he would continue to act with impunity and jail or kill the offending judges.
