meaningful time with one.

I've taught children with autism with a variety of levels on and off the spectrum, from pre-K to eighth grade.

You have to work with them on their good days, their bad days, perhaps change from one hour to the next.

You have to have a patience. OTOH, they can be impatient. They can advance one day and slip back the next.

They can blurt out "I hate you!" and 15 minutes later, return to apologize.

You can do your best to help them become independent and autonomous on their terms.

They are NOT a waste of space. But you know who are? Parents who are resentful that they weren't given a perfect child. And won't learn from and work with the teachers and aides of these children.
