9. From the time I was a small child I witnessed my mom fearlessly arguing with "authorities" countless times.

Cops, school principals, judges, church leaders (including an infamous Catholic bishop), county supervisors, U.S. Senators, God... She probably created a big ruckus at the Pearly Gates when cancer finally defeated her.

My mom's the reason we had to leave Franco's Spain on a narrow rural road in the middle of the night when I was a kid.

I think my dad had a full time job keeping my mom out of trouble, even from getting shot by angry misogynistic men with guns I imagine, but she was his muse.

From what I've read Renee Good sounds like a kinder more gentle soul than my mom but I think you are exactly right.

Some men do not tolerate having their authority questioned, especially by a woman.
