Of your wife. I, too would be living with the idea in the back of my head constantly. I hesitate to say this but I think the equity company that bought up most of the vets in my little city cost me one of the most living cats I ever rescued. Starting today, I'm on a 3 day memorial for him. Losing him like I did just ripped my heart to pieces. he ended up dying on St Patty's day, I ache and long to have him in my arms cocking his head tilt and looking at me with the most loyal loving eyes. Tho the vet I had tried her best with whatever restrictions she was under, I can't help but feel they just saw an old street cat who wasn't going to bring them in much money. Not one of those equity partners understands how bad my heart hurts each Mar 15, im sure. But they've made trying to get a quick appt and checking pets in and out as quickly as possible their brand. Problem is thete are no more independent vets.... just like we have trouble finding good doctors now that the equity group closed down 2 hospitals and an ER in our town.

I'm so careful with my cats now... and the dog. I research everything and im over the vets shoulder whenever I have to take one in.

You can imagine how I feel about bone grafts, etc.

They used to call this a first world problem but I beg to differ. This the kind of corruption that's known in third world countries... which we now are... thanks to Bezos, Thiel, and Musk.
