2. Sounds like Arrow intercepts failed - different size missiles use differ interceptors

They have other interceptions besides Iron Dome - David’s Sling, Arrow, 2 and 3, Patriot and sometimes THAADs. lThey are all different targeting different short & long range missiles & drones.

According to Grok it looks like it was the Arrow intercepts that missed.

Grok:

“Iran launched ballistic missiles (some long-range, the first of their kind in weeks) targeting southern Israel, including near the Dimona nuclear research center and the city of Arad. The IDF confirmed:
- Air defenses (Arrow and the layered system) operated but did not intercept the missiles that struck.
- This led to direct hits: buildings damaged (including apartment collapses in Arad), dozens injured (at least 7–10 seriously, including children), and a mass-casualty event declared in Arad. No radiation leak at Dimona.
- Similar reports from Hezbollah barrages in the north.

Social media and outlets (including Fox News clips circulating) have widely called this an "Iron Dome failure," but that's imprecise—Iron Dome isn't the primary system for these high-speed, long-range ballistic threats (that's Arrow's role). Saturation barrages, decoys, speed, and sheer volume can overwhelm even advanced layers, allowing debris or warheads through despite many successful intercepts earlier in the war. The IDF is investigating tonight's specific misses but notes this isn't a "new" or unfamiliar munition type.”
