our next door neighbors were graying. He was a high grade engineer, retired, she was stay at home.
She baked cookies and watched over us.
We had moved from Boston, to quiet, for a family to become 8, 6 children.
Our neighbors were from genteel, South Carolina.
He was big league credentials.
Great every one knew every one, environment.
He stayed indoors mostly. My mother got to know them some. As did I. Shoveling, chores etc. for cookies.
After an extended conversation, my mother brought up at dinner, that our neighbor kept to himself as he was raised, admonishingly, to have your name noticed on your birth announcement and your obituary.
Never forgot that one.
