94. No, I do not think it is ok. Those 700+ military sites in more than 30 countries

vary in size from a few folks at a radar site to the huge bases.

Close many/most and see a savings in lease payments to the host countries.

See an immediate savings in the cost of payroll to the local civilian workers at those sites/bases.

Return the military personnel/dependents to the US and disperse them among the bases in the US that were downsized, providing a boost to those local economies.

Return to the US the equipment from those sites/bases that is easily transportable, and sell the remainder at a garage sale.

Reduce the size of the military via normal attrition as enlistments expire, and less vigorous recruiting efforts.

Let the Department of Defense be for Defense, and stop being policemen to the world.

You said "life is not just about money", but for many it is. "Ponder" the millions the president has promised to Jordan (there was a DU thread on this recently) that the homeless, unemployed, uninsured, no medical access people in the US might find useful.
