(16,388 posts)left a father and son in a flipped truck. I felt bad doing it, but the kid was complaining his legs hurt. I convinced the other bystanders to leave him in there, as none of us had training on how to remove him without causing further damage to his legs. The Dad wouldn't leave his son in there alone. I told the dad to keep him calm and keep him talking. If he stopped talking or seemed like he was in shock, we would pull him out.
EMt's came, used a tool to push the dash back, splinted the leg, It took 4 guys to pull the kid out safely.
They thanked us. When we saw them weeks later they thanked us again. The son's right leg was badly broken and moving him would have made it worse.
I will add, I did that without a call from the police to rush to the scene for them. I was actually behind them when they got t-boned by a car that ran a red light.
this is why I have a problem with flim zim man's story. Unless accident victims are able to move on their own leave them where they are. (Unless of course leaving them is more dangerous.) Talk to them to keep them calm and watch for signs of distress. Therefor he did not 'save' them as many headlines suggest.
