• The reasons women give for having an abortion underscore their understanding of the responsibilities of parenthood and family life. Three-fourths of women cite concern for or responsibility to other individuals; three-fourths say they cannot afford a child; three-fourths say that having a baby would interfere with work, school or the ability to care for dependents; and half say they do not want to be a single parent or are having problems with their husband or partner.

So - it's at least possible that we could prevent many, many of the abortions in this country by raising wages, providing parental leave, providing free, convenient day care (including for people working 2nd and 3rd shift), providing respite care etc. etc , etc.

It's not a real choice when a woman has to choose between bearing a child and seeing her life destroyed. When the Republicans aren't busy accusing women of being baby killers, they are busy accusing women of bearing baby after baby to cash in on welfare! So while they try to limit the right to choose abortion, they also impose policies that force women into getting an abortion as the only option!

I personally find abortion a hideous option - but outlawing abortions doesn't stop women from getting abortions, it stops women from getting safe abortions and it puts women with ectopic pregnancies or miscarriages in danger!

Not intending this to be a post and run - but it's past my bed time here!
