The clown, who wants to keep his real identity anonymous, said: “I just wanted to amuse people.

“Most people enjoy being a bit freaked out and then they can laugh about it afterwards.

“It’s like watching a horror movie, when people get scared they usually start laughing.

“Naturally, some people would have been extremely frightened by what they saw, but I hope many are starting to see it as a bit of harmless fun.”

Northampton clown catcher vows to hunt down creepy circus man stalking the streets of East Midlands

"My name is Boris. I am the official clown catcher," he says on his official Facebook page. "I am not here to scare anyone. I am not here to hurt anyone. I come in peace!"

Boris admits on his Facebook page that his efforts to catch the creepy circus man have been hampered by an injury sustained while in action.

Boris wrote: "I wasn't able to get to Gloucester Avenue to try and catch the clown. I hurt my leg whilst I was climbing up a tree looking for him earlier."

He has previously offered to work with the clown saying: "If you are a kind clown (as you say you are), then we should join forces and save Northampton from all evil and danger!"
