List of reasons young adults need health insurance, too [View all]
Am I missing anything? I made the below list to respond to young adults who claim they dont need to enroll in an insurance plan under the Affordable Care Act because We dont get sick all the time like you older people do. All additions welcome.
Why Young People Need Health Insurance, Too:
1. Seasonal bugs: Colds, flu, bronchitis, flu shots
2. Birth control
3. Prenatal care
4. Giving birth
5. Pediatric care
6. Sexually transmitted diseases
7. Sports injuries (football, skiing, cycling, skateboarding, rock-climbing, etc.)
8. Car and motorcycle wrecks
9. Drunk and stupid injuries (e.g., falling down stairs, off balconies, etc.)
10. College stress-related illnesses (such as headaches, sleeplessness, panic attacks, depression)
11. Drug/alcohol addiction treatment
12. Common household injuries (cuts needing stitches, broken bones, concussions, electrocutions)
13. Lyme disease testing and treatment
14. Infections from tattoos or piercings
15. Food poisoning (e.g., eating lysteria-tainted melon, food left out overnight, or their own cooking)
16. Injuries from fist fights (barroom brawls, sports scuffles, fights over boy/girlfriend)
17. Chronic illnesses even young folks get (e.g., asthma, allergies, or irritable bowel syndrome)
18. Eating disorders
19. Workplace injuries (repetitive motion syndrome, HAZMAT contamination, fryer burns, pulled muscles, hernias, etc.)
20. Treatment after a personal attack (muggings, robberies, rapes, etc.)
21. An ugly, itchy mystery rash.
22. Head lice, crabs, other creepy-crawlies
23. The effects of mold and mildew permeating a cheap first apartment
24. Ailments or conditions that run in the family (anything from early baldness to a bum ticker)
25. Carpal Tunnel Syndrome caused by 16-hour gaming sessions
