(32,139 posts)1. With an extended shutdown I think my dad would be effected -
he gets checks from the Dept. of Defense and Social Security monthly (100% disabled war veteran), but it looks like the VA hospitals will remain open so his ongoing care shouldn't be affected. He doesn't live paycheck to paycheck as some of the Vets do. I'm sure there are many who could be hurt if this goes on for awhile.
Frankly I don't think Congress should be getting their checks either if folks like Veterans are affected.
