(9,854 posts)except on TV over the weekend. I occasionally see Confederate stickers on cars, stuff like that; but the only flags I usually see are US flags. We have a ton of mixed race couples as friends, my kids have friends of many races and few people that I know (including a lot of pretty determined Republicans) are any more or less racist than I imagine people are everywhere.
And nobody talks about the Civil War, gives two shits about secession or talks about any of the things that get attributed to us by outsiders. I do probably hear 'ma'am' and 'sir' more than somebody somewhere else, but I kinda like it.
I get so sick of coming here where theoretically discrimination and bigotry should be anathema and being exposed to the most egregious examples of both against southerners and the South. It's a little ironic, isn't it?
