(4,192 posts)21. I grew up in the heart of Liberal America - the People's Republic of Boulder,
as it is so affectionately known. My mom was a republican, my neighbors across the street were a bunch of racist Mormons, most of my friends had very conservative parents, and when a new elementary school was built, our friendly and well-liked principal went there and our neighborhood school got a conservative who cut after school programs and art classes I guess to save money. This was in the mid 1970's.
It matters who your immediate neighbors are. Generalizations can break down very quickly. And as liberals, we need to do all we can to not let conservatives dominate conversations. It matters especially to the kids around us.
