I'm guilty also---
I actually had a similar thought yesterday--watching a bit of MSM, noticing also there was zero discussion about 2014....

Nice way to distract this "squirrel" ---Odds are "They're" working furiously to get big GOP money/candidates in the states and we're fast-forwarding to 2016 as if '14 is already gone.

(An aside but an Important heads up for Oregon in 2014)
I was also in deep conversation yesterday with a friend re: Our US Senator - Merkley - Is in a vulnerable place. We need to work very hard to assure his victory.
We've already got at least One ALEC member-Jason Conger, up against him out of our state house...and the others are lining up like it's the 2010 GOP Primaries'---
The bad thing is - folks are seemingly passive re: Protecting this Democrat--because he's supposedly "Safe"--Wherever That "rumor" came from.......Trust me-It's Not a Rumor. the threat to his seat is real. For one thing, before Merkley this seat was held for Years by the GOP (Sen Smith) and They Want It Back.
