(12,051 posts)party organizations don't support Dem candidates (either financially or personally) in many, many cases. I know I've beaten this drum here in many posts, but it still bears repeating:
In VA in 2012, the very credible challenger to the hated Eric Cantor, Powell, was polling 40% way before the election. He got NO financial help, although he did ask repeatedly. In the end, he got 39% of the vote by spending about $450,000; Cantor's war chest was $10 million! This guy could have won if he had had ANY financial support from ANY large Dem donor or Dem organization. Why was aid not forthcoming? I have no idea what the national Dem organizations actually do, but they certainly aren't helping anywhere with local and state races. Why is this? Until we answer this question, we will keep on losing.
As an additional irritation, it was reported here on DU that the VA Chair of the VA Dem Party issued a call for donations to keep the recount going here in VA. My response was: WHAAAAAAT??? How come the national Dem orgs, which are 10 miles away in DC, aren't shoveling money, personnel at this issue immediately? Why do voters have to pony up $5 donations to keep elections honest??? What the hell is this? Can anyone find an answer? In 2000, the Pubs sent money, disruptors and screamers to Miami to STOP a recount, and the Dems can't even send some money and people 10 miles down the road?
Does everyone understand that there is something seriously wrong with this picture, and that until this is fixed, us running around trying to get Aunt Mabel to vote is worthless? We are focusing on the wrong problem!
