In reply to the discussion: Confession of a former Rush Limbaugh fan [View all]GatorOrange
(63 posts)My father was an intense devotee to the church of Limbaugh/Faux News. I bought it hook, line, and sinker for years. Then Iraq rolled around....some things started to smell fishy. Beck's "Rally For America", the way The Dixie Chicks were eviscerated, and how all debate seemed neutralized/everyone seemed to march in line with that imbecile Bush. Started to open my eyes to the big picture and look more into multiple sources. Caught DU because of Top 10 Conservative Idiots and it grew from there.
As for opening the common conservatives eyes...it really comes down clearing the Faux News/Conservative Media Echo Chamber fog of BS. Pointing out hypocrisy is an incredible first start and gets your foot in the mental door. A conservative will say "Obama is a TAX AND SPEND LIB-RUL!". Just need to point out how Reagan tripled the debt, Cheney's line about "Reagan Taught Us Deficits Don't Matter Anymore", and the trillions upon trillions George Dubya Bush tacked on the debt. Then move onto fundamental individuality. Conservative Media Echo Chamber Victims have been brainwashed to think Democrats are in power to take their money, livelihood, prosperity, and even their apple pie. Point out that (most) Democrats could care less about getting into getting into a persons bedroom, in a persons doctors office, or in a woman's uterus. We want prosperity for everyone.
It's really a tough task; but starting at hypocrisy will at least open their eyes to the BS being spewed. A far easier task nowadays with the internet and the available sources to refute it.
