(4,558 posts)He used to talk about this place, and what vile things were said here. I came to see for myself (he wasn't counting on that!).
The more posts I read, the more I found that my own values were more in line with the left, and I had taken the path that was expected of me in a red state. It used to piss me off that conservatives were cast as bigots and heartless. I wasn't like that! But the more I opened my eyes, the more I saw that my views were not being represented by my party. To be honest, I believe that a lot of the bigoted things we're hearing from conservative friends these days are things they'd have never said ten years ago. Little by little it has become de rigueur to demonstrate tribal loyalty by taking extreme positions and sticking to them. It's poisoning people.
One thing's for sure, if you want to know what liberals think, ask a liberal. You won't find out by listening to a conservative.
