If they are embracing the liberal safety net side of things only because it happens to be their way of saying "I got mine" at the moment, if they would go back to the other side as soon as they thought it was in their best interest, or if they're choosing sides only based on who is being most polite at one particular point in time, and not because they give a fuck about the core ideals and values that progressives think are important, then that kind of behavior I couldn't care less about.
If someone is superficially doing the "right" thing for the wrong reasons, then no, they don't deserve praise. They deserve the chance to put their money where their mouth is, and to make up for all of their shitty and destructive behavior in the past, but that's all.
