21. It's one of the top stories in Korea this week

Mar 2012

I live in Korea (south, otherwise I wouldn't be able to post this) and there's been a lot of coverage about it, though the story has dropped a little in favor of the liberal party sex scandal issue.

On a side note, if you want to know what sort of news people are interested in out here, you should check out Naver.com's top 10 stories of the week, as translated by Koreabeat.com. http://asiancorrespondent.com/77338/most-read-naver-com-articles-of-the-week-march-4-2011/#disqus_thread
Here's an example that had a lot of oddities:

1. A woman was arrested for tossing a bowl of hot soup into a young boy’s face at a restaurant.

2. The owner of a cafe in Gangnam was caught with a hidden camera in the women’s bathroom, which he used to photograph over 900 women.

3. More on #1.

4. A 49-year-old man who had lost his business and become estranged from his family was found dead in a goshitel room.

5. Host bars in Gangnam are getting raunchier as they branch out into the “bodobang” business formerly reserved for female prostitution.

6. A murderer was caught thanks to a recreation of the crime being broadcast on SBS.

7. The story of how two workers in restaurant/coffee shop wound up getting into an incredibly boring fight.

8. The video of an altercation between a female student and a woman in a convenience store remained on netizen radars.

9. Another altercation between a pregnant woman and an employee of a restaurant also continued to receive attention.

10. Two brothers who had been very close to each other began drinking and fighting after their grandmother died, and police had to separate them as they fought over her bank account — all 930,000 won of it.

11. MBC reporter Kim Jae-cheol was found to be using his company credit card improperly for things like expensive hotels.

12. The government is establishing some programs to help unemployed teens and those above age 40, partly through unemployment benefits of 320,000 won.

This one from last week has something about an American photographer. http://asiancorrespondent.com/77833/most-read-naver-com-articles-of-the-week-march-11-2012/
1. Henchmen of aging gangster Kim Tae-chon are accused of sexually assaulting a nurse aiding doctors treating him for pneumonia.

2. A photo by American Matthew Hoey is being used in the campaign against the naval base being built in Jeju.

3. A female university student was sexually assaulted in her apartment in Chuncheon.

4. A group of teenagers and kids launched a direct denial of service attack on the website of the Ministry Gender and Family, which has been trying to enact laws to limit how much time they can spend playing online games.

5. Despite the decreasing adult smoking rate, the number of teens and even pre-teens who smoke is on the rise.

6. An article on what it’s like at the hospital where Kim Tae-chon is being treated.

7. The approximately 1,500 members of the first graduating class of the nation’s new law schools are finding that job market doesn’t have enough openings for all of them. One mentioned in the article is driving a taxi to make ends meet.

8. In the first mention I’ve seen in the Korean media of animal hoarding, a woman in Seoul was found dead among her over 30 cats.

9. An article on passengers behaving badly on international flights.

10. An article on upcoming changes to the judicial examination system.

I note he was raised in Iowa and is president of Dartmouth. Freepers ain't gonna be happy. kestrel91316 Mar 2012 #1
