(37,573 posts)to have people pay taxes.
I pay a certain amount of city taxes. Every year on Explosion fortnight, the city puts on a stupid fireworks show to celebrate our Chinese heritage or something.
That's one thing, but it is not quite the same as the government requiring everybody to buy a certain amount of fireworks every year.
I just do not, and never will care for that kind of legislation. First, to force a supposedly free citizen to spend his/her money on something they do not want. And second, to clearly subsidize a certain industry.
Then too, I think there is something drastically wrong with "a system based on insurance".
Finally, until I was 42 years old I had no health insurance. Do I think it would have been a great benefit to me to have FORCED me to buy health insurance when I was 40? Or 35? or 30?
Well, why didn't I have health insurance? Because I was young and thought I was invincible?
No, because I was young and did NOT have a GOOD job which paid for health insurance. Something that finally changed after I turned 42.
I mean, what, I am supposed to have a bunch of people who have good jobs wag their fingers at me and say "you need to join the risk pool, you free riding mooch you".
