(28,151 posts)Have seen your DU name before, couldn't tell ya about a single post from you though. I don't follow such things all that closely.
Now, to step away from that nonsense (bait) back to somewhat the subject at hand...let's get one thing straight, I completely empathize with anyone who needs medical treatment but cannot get it. I am one of those people. I have a chronic situation that I have been dealing with for 8 years now and will finally have insurance in effect in June. There have been times where I have felt utter despair...yes, I fully get it. (I certainly empathize with Mrs. Pitt on that level, along with others.)
I blame the insurance industry, big pharma as well as the medical community for all these ills. Every one of these groups all live very large and they do it by each taking their (generous) slice of the pie (each individual's health care being a pie). No one seems to have been able to do anything about any of this. Some have tried but the only one to make any progress at all has been Obama. He too could've added his name to the list of those who failed at any improvement by demanding a single payer system and dramatically flaming out. I think he did the smart thing in getting what he did. It is a start. Many will have insurance that didn't/couldn't. Many lives will be saved. Stories will come out, people will have experiences (their own or a loved one). This will be successful and people will want more improvements as the system progresses.
I think it's counter-productive to go all out with full screaming headlines, blaming Obama for anyone's particular healthcare hardship. Talk to/scream at/blame those who make it utterly impossible to even bring the topic of single payer to the table. Let's aim our ire at those who would take us all back to medieval times, not those who agree with us that we need to move forward. Once we get a majority of people who want to move forward, then we can fight about just how to do it--one thing at a time.
I read in other comments in this thread that you too are in similar situation as far as not being able to get what you need, medically speaking. I am sorry to hear this. I hope you know relief to your situation soon.
Julie
