Part of America's National Security Apparatus is the NSA or No Such Agency. One of the things they do is monitor and record every single electronic transmission in and out of the USA and they have been doing this for a very long time. A "businessman" with known ties to criminal organizations, world leaders including communists and despots would have been a person of interest to other elements of America's National Security Apparatus who more than likely have all sorts of rather interesting information in the files too. There is no way any of the info pre WH would be destroyed while he was in the WH the gov has too many places to hide stuff all over the world. The people who protect that sort of information are immune from the politics of the day, they protect the real secrets of America they have it all, they need to release it.
