In reply to the discussion: Obama to reward colleges of education whose grads get students to raise test scores. More testing?? [View all]deurbano
(2,987 posts)16. My children had MUCH less testing (and test prep) at their elite and very expensive private school.
We switched them to public school when my daughter was entering 3rd grade (she's now in 6th) and my son was entering 7th (he's now in 10th). The private school cost more than $20,000 per year (at the time), though my kids received financial aid. The private school parents didn't want all the testing, either, and their money gave them more clout than public school parents. (And this was a school that had a majority Asian and biracial Asian-Caucasion population, with quite a few parents who were born in China or elsewhere in Asia, since the school was Mandarin Immersion.)

Very sad, and it is overwhelming to think about how we'll reverse all the mess...sigh.

The teachers are only "imported" because the "fancy" school is Mandarin immersion.

I disagree that: "The public schools are so bad now." That's not my kids' experience in comparison

I would be willing to bet that you took far fewer tests than students in public schools

Don't know who he's going to get to do it; 76% of the higher ed workforce is part-time.

Obama has stabbed students and teachers in the back too much. I will not vote for ANY Democrat
