2. The right gets hysterical

the second any of their preconceived notions get challenged. They view it as a personal attack, because they believe their judgment is infallible. It's what authoritarians do. They choose to believe it, and that they are good people for having "faith".

Challenging their version of what they decide is "truth" is personally assailing their character because they are seldom wrong, and when proven wrong, decline to admit it for as long as possible because, well, they were probably right anyway despite being proved that they were wrong.

See: 400 years before the Catholic Church admits that Gallileo was right about the Earth revolving around the Sun. He was jailed for that.

Do you think conservatives have changed any in the history of modern times? They have to be dragged screaming, kicking and clawing into a change of view point because tradition is so much easier for them. It's also why there has never been a Republican that was a truly innovative soul except for when it comes to exploiting already in place structures. They are great at that.
