(8,312 posts)... the person has scrounged and saved and purchased one, or found one cheaply? It's like the great Grocery Cart Scrutiny Contest where people judge the food purchases of those on food stamps. Why should a person on SNAP be judged for buying steak? You might not see the "manager's special" sticker on the package that made that steak cheaper than the hamburger put out that day -- or it might be a once-a-month splurge and the rest of the month spent eating Ramen. As long as any kids in the house have enough to eat, what adults choose to purchase with their allocated SNAP benefits is really none of my business.
I'm not judging the Obamaphone. I'm glad it's there. When I became eligible (after getting Medicaid) while waiting on my disability decision, I had one. I was grateful for it, because it meant that I could reach my doctors.
But I found a $20 Motorola Droid on Ebay that worked with the service, and then later switched that same Droid over to StraightTalk when I could afford the $50 a month for it. I reimaged it so it runs Jellybean OS -- a little slower than the modern phones, but $20 and a little bit of work for a phone almost as functional as the new Galaxy ones out there?
