(48,958 posts)add Saphire Blue. I weep for these losses - but I celebrate that for the internet and DU - we would have missed being touched by these (and those on your original list - marked by the RIP).
I absolutely remember the feeling of family. I hope that more active, current posters, find that as well - though I would guess that it would be easier to find in subforums than in the big forums. However the subforums that I follow are pretty inactive so it would be hard to forge the sense of family and community. I hope, but have no idea, if such a feeling is found among current active posters.
I can say, that this thread has been amazing for me, to reconnecting with that feeling, per reconnecting with names and voices that I have long valued (from long ago discussions) - but who like me - are not terribly active.
As I write this I think of another name who I periodically see, and have always valued, who I didn't mention. Armstead. Like me - he has wavered between optimism for the future and cynicism of our reality. Every time I see him post - I read it. Always thoughtful. Makes me think.
Thinking of him makes me realize while we have lost our sense of community (at least for us oldtimers) there are a good number of us still here. How do we reconnect and rebuild that sense of connectedness?
With that thought - after several days of a lot of time on my hands - I won't have much time until Tuesday. So if you suddenly find responses several days from now - forgive me, but let's continue the conversation and bring others on this thread into that conversation.
Peace and great appreciation for the food for thought,
