(28,151 posts)It is very unfortunate that the statement was worded as it was. With that said, what the Dems should be doing is not running from the statement but rephrasing it. If I was a pol and a reporter asked my thoughts on the statement I'd say "If by "never worked a day in her life" you mean that she has never had to hold a job and stretch a paycheck to cover food and rent, then yes, that is correct." Boom, change the direction.
One could even sort of laughingly dismiss the unfortunate part of the statement (this only works for women, of course) by saying "Hey, I've had children, seriously, labor is involved...." and then put the direction on women who are not getting by financially and how Ann Romney would find their world completely alien.
It's being run on the defense and it shouldn't be.
