Medical professionals are constantly exposed to infections and part of their job is to make sure they understand not only how infections are spread but how to prevent further contamination. I worked in a hospital setting for decades and I was required to learn about and be tested on my knowledge of infection transmission even though I didn't work directly with patients. That's because when you work in a hospital, you have no idea what you might be exposed to on the elevator, in the halls or coming through the front door. The incubation period is well-documented in JCAHO and CDC guidelines, which she would have had access to. And even if she didn't, it's not like she was ignorant to the fact that she treated a patient with Ebola. She knew she was exposed to the virus and she could have easily prevented putting anyone else at risk by staying off of a plane.
