Let us not write off Bernie Sanders too quickly, because of him being a socialist.

I volunteered a bit on his 1990 election to the House.

I learned something then: it didn't matter that he called himself a socialist. People knew that he would fight for their economic interests, and that is what mattered to them.

By the way, I believe that he received (and still receives) the bulk of his support from the working class constituencies of Vermont.
