Does America treat Black People fairly? [View all]

It is my opinion that America has been treating minority populations, especially Black and Native Americans like dirt for Centuries. Now, I have noticed lately that many here seem to think that our efforts at assimilation are funny and use our attempts to discuss Cultural Appropriation to mock us and accuse us of Appropriating White culture by assimilating to the dominant culture.

I do not think that is fair. If we do not assimilate to the dominant culture, we suffer serious consequences, like not being employable. I have worked in industries where looking more white, like having long, straight, hair, wearing certain clothing and accessories actually increased my pay and helped me succeed. Wearing an afro to a job interview is not helpful. You may think it doesn't matter, but it does.

Since there are no consequences for being themselves, many black people are offended when members of the majority adopt cultural mannerisms of our culture. There is a history there if you choose to look. Stolen people with stolen identities forming a culture among those who stole them, their labor, their children are loathe to give up anything else to the majority who have taken so much from them already, and still don't like or accept them as equals after all these centuries. There is it. That's my take on it. I could go further, but I don't want to make this too long.

Black people should just allow the appropriation without comment so that White people like them.

There is no such thing as appropriation.
