In reply to the discussion: More racist brutality by NYPD Thugs-in-Blue, for dancing in the street [View all]hollysmom
(5,946 posts)When I was in college the night of the murder of King, the police were over present. now, we were both white, but police in college towns really used to hate college students. anyway, I missed my bus and ended up arguing on the street with boyfriend, it was his fault, really for making me have to wait an hour for the next bus. but in the midst of complaining to him the next thing I saw was him slammed against the wall and while I was trying to stop it, they were beating up on him. Trying to say it was just an argument, no one was hitting anyone. They hauled him off to jail and he yelled to call his uncle ( a police captain in another city) I think calling his uncle saved his life because they were beating him up in a jail cell when his uncle came in - broke his collar bone and his ear drum and his jaw in 3 places. I think enhanced police presence gets their adrenaline too high and they can't stop themselves.
Have you never yelled at someone on a public street? I am not even sure it was yelling so much as complaining and whining. there was no need for them to intervene and if it was not for his uncle, I have no idea what would have happened except nothing good.
