but some of these elections are running at a million plus. Why most folks who would love to, don't run They do not have the social or party capital to raise that amount of cash.

The reforms that I would like to see are

1.- Publicly funded elections, nobody, not Unions or corporations or you and me, personally. give money. That ends that corruption. Can bring others, but.

2.- Cut the length of the contest to four months. You think it is only the Presidential that already started? Nope.

Those two require laws, the first one an amendment. Citizens United is the Dredd Scott of our age in my mind. And why I really do not care about horse races, but the mechanics, yes. This is also why you have less and less discussion of policy and a lot of mindless bumper sticker talk.
