15. Selling fear and ignorance - the Communists didn't shut down churches

The talked down religion and they did, ruthlessly, make examples out of some of the clergy but they knew not to take religion away from people. You can't just make people stop following their faith.

In fact it was part of their downfall. Churches were safe places for the opposition to meet and they continually met.
