(36,382 posts)Here's the most recent Enterprise Agreement for McDonalds and if you take the adult wage for a permanent employee at level 3 (my daughter got there pretty quick), it converts to US$16 before tax. They also get 4 weeks annual leave (don't know if they get that in the US), long service leave, superannuation and leave loading...
While they do employ a lot of kids, I know from the Maccas my daughter worked at that there's also a lot of adults who work weekdays when the kids are at school. And when it comes to the kids, it's a stepping stone to other jobs. My daughter did 18 months there before getting a job in the organisation I work for where she was one of over 8000 people who applied for 100 entry level positions. They were looking for school leavers and someone involved in the recruitment process later told me that when they were doing the mass culling of applicants ones who'd worked at Maccas were looked on favourably because working there gives them experience in team work and stuff.
