(1,712 posts)The reason people think it's weirder, is because they (a) know less about it, (b) know fewer members of the religion on average, and (c) it's more "modern" than most other major organized religions. After all - a talking burning bush? Resurrections? An apple of knowledge? Turning a dame into a pillar of salt? Bizarro shit, my friends. It's just familiar and ancient enough that we can shrug and write it off as primitive myth - weren't those ancient peoples so quaint? But Mormonism asks you to believe that same level of happy horsepuckey happened right here in America in relatively modern times. That's emotionally harder to write off the same way. Lies are lies, and tall tales are tall tales. Every half-assed chieftain, modern or ancient, likes telling stories that make 'em look impressive.
