The reason there isn't a "cure" for cancer is that what works for one cancer and one person is completely useless on another person. Even the same type of cancer in different individuals respond differently to chemotherapeutics.
The newer immuno-oncology drugs tend to show better outcomes for at least a growing percentage of patients with a certain cancer because they are the first drugs that can actually target the cancer instead of targeting fast growing cells in general.
Cancer is complicated and because of that there is general belief that there won't be a magic bullet to cure it.
