(8,830 posts)8. Only one SC justice, Samuel Chase,
has ever been impeached for judicial performance. He was acquitted. That was in 1803.
Several justices have had motions for impeachment forwarded - all for misconduct - but none went to impeachment.
The Constitution is so vague on this issue as to be useless, and Congress is apparently terrified of suggesting that the judicial performance of any SC justice is grounds for removal.
