In reply to the discussion: Ever Fainted? Here's a Poll [View all]silverweb
(16,402 posts)[font color="navy" face="Verdana"]The first time was definitely heat related. I was about 12, on a trip with the Girl Scouts to Washington DC. We had been standing in the hot sun for a long time, awaiting our turn for the White House tour. Next thing I knew, I was looking up from the sidewalk and frightened chaperones were bending over me. Shade and hydration worked quite well, and I was fine for the rest of the trip.
The second time, I was about 29 and had just had outpatient surgery the day before. I stood up from my chair and awoke on the carpet, staring at the ceiling. The doctor said it was probably a drop in blood pressure related to residual anesthesia in my system. Rest and taking in more fluid ensured that it didn't happen again.
There are many, many benign reasons for fainting and it can happen to anyone at any age.
